Buy a phone number

Taki searches the carrier inventory and buys the line for you. You never open a carrier console.

Decide two things:

  • Area code or city. Local numbers read as local to your callers.
  • Whether this is an extra line. Your plan includes a set number of lines. Extra lines are 2× the carrier monthly rental and show up on the next Stripe invoice.

A live number needs a paid plan (a card on file). The trial is for test calls on the site.

Buy from inside Taki

  1. Open Numbers and search an area code.
  2. Taki shows what is available, with locality and the monthly price (Included, or the extra-line price).
  3. Press Buy. The number appears in your list within a few seconds and is already pointed at Taki.

Typical US local carrier rental is about $1.15 per month. We charge $2.30 for extra lines. Toll-free costs more on both sides.

Attach the number to a flow

A number does nothing until it points at a published flow.

  1. Open Numbers and pick the number.
  2. Choose a published voice flow, and a text flow if you want SMS.
  3. Save.

If the flow is still a draft, publish it first.

Bring your own Twilio (advanced)

If you turned on BYO Twilio under Billing, search and import use your Twilio account instead. Those lines are billed by Twilio directly; Taki does not add the 2× extra-line charge on them. The 25% plan credit is a separate thing, described on the setup guide.

Releasing a number

Releasing a hosted number releases it on our carrier account. We cannot promise you will get that exact string back. If it is on business cards, keep it or ask us to start a port out.
